Are you a nature hater?

Don’t be embarrassed about it – it is a common condition.  The term “nature hater” was coined by my youngest grandchild (7) in reference to her older sister (14).  Let’s face it, there are lots of people out there who are scared of bugs, are allergic to pollen, can’t walk long distances due to fallen arches, can’t ride a bike due to lack of balance (me included) and generally are just not the outdoorsy type.

It is best to recognise this condition in yourself and acknowledge it so that you don’t get into any awkward situations.  As a friend of mine wisely said “For me camping is staying at the Holiday Inn.” …… Not that there’s anything wrong with the Holiday Inn..you understand – she was just illustrating a point.

Ummm – where do I find the room service menu?

I did a tour to Tanzania a couple of years ago and the one poor lady really should not have been on the tour.  She was terrified of bugs – even during the day time – and when I asked her why she had undertaken this trip she said she did it for her husband because his dream had been to visit East Africa.  Well she gets an Oscar as far as I am concerned.
Even glamping may not appeal to the Nature Hater.  I have stayed in some incredible tented accommodation in Tanzania like this place.

But….if you are nervous about being in the middle of the African bush in a tent – even a glamorous one – then maybe this is not the place for you.  Don’t worry – Nature Haters have their own place in the universe.  The towns and cities of Europe for example are full of incredible libraries and museums where the Nature Hater will feel at home and most likely the Happy Go Lucky Hiker might not enjoy at all.  Might even find it boring.

Here are some Amazing City Activities –

  • How about having a private after hours toursof the Louvre with an art historian,
  • or lunch near the Kremlin in Russia with an ex KGB spy
  • or perhaps tour a special restoration area of the Terracotta Warriors which his closed to the public
  • private visits with both the Guinness Beer and Jameson Whiskey families in their castles as well as with other members of the Aristocracy.

So even if you are a Nature Hater there is a whole world out there waiting to be discovered – so no shame involved.
This is a message of hope for my grand-daughter!  The original nature hater!
