Pack your sleeping bag for the Royal Wedding

The date is set, the best man appointed and now the royal route has been made public.  All that is left to do is to book your tickets and find a hotel in London to enjoy a first hand glimpse of the wedding party.  This will undoubtedly be one of the most anticipated celebrity weddings since Diana and Charles were married way back in 1981.

The wedding will be a huge boost for London and the surrounding area and hotels will sell out quickly.  Still there are some half-decent packages out there with flights and hotel that will put you in the area.  However if you are serious about catching a glimpse of William and Catherine it might be an idea to pack your sleeping bag and get down to the proposed route in the early morning or even the night before for a good spot.  For help in planning your wedding viewing consult www.visitlondon.com where you can see the route in detail together with a map and a timetable of events.

In typical entrepreneurial spirit you will find literally tons of “royal wedding packages” but basically what they are is a hotel stay.  Don’t get excited and think that a royal wedding package will include a ticket to the back pew in Westminster Abbey – that row is reserved for distant cousins recalled from the colonies and ambassadors of not very important countries.  Nevertheless you can get the whole feel of the carnival on the streets and it will probably be much more fun than sitting in church.  There is sure to be music, Union Jacks, pictures of Diana (the two weddings are going to be linked no matter what anybody can say – let’s just hope that William does a better job than Charles did), fish and chips and flowers.  Sounds like fun.

Interesting to note speculation as to what tiara (if any) Kate will wear.  There is a fascinating article at Hello Magazine (www.hellomagazine.com)    which details which royal bride wore which tiara and how Fergy wasn’t given a tiara from the royal collection but one was purchased for her from a jewellery store.  Mmmm – not a very warm welcome to the Firm.  Will Kate receive the same treatment?

Anyway if you choose to go you will enjoy London – it will be at it’s most buoyant, it’s most patriotic and hopefully they have learned by now that beer is best served cold.
