There is a difference you know….. Pool people are very fussy. They like big big pools with semi-submerged loungers and if there isn’t a swim up bar – well forget about it! Beach people on the other hand – well they tend to be quite fussy too …. about beaches. The beach has to be long – for those early morning walks. It shouldn’t have any stones or sharp coral. It definitely shouldn’t have seaweed and a big no no – it shouldn’t have any sea debris like old plastic cups discarded or lost overboard by passing fishermen.
Not surprisingly beach people are quite fussy about the sea as well. Many people like the calm turquoise waters of the Caribbean, hence Cancun and the Mayan Riviera are very popular. What many people don’t realise though is that beaches are constantly changing – especially in the Caribbean with it’s regular hurricane season. One year you could have a beautiful beach miles long – the next …. nothing but rocks and seaweed. And if you happen to be anywhere near the Gulf of Mexico at the moment … well those nasty little tar balls are going to really get on your nerves. As a child growing up in Cornwall I lived through years of tarred feet after the Torrey Canyon smashed up on the rocks of the Cornish Coast so I sympathise.
Pool people don’t have to worry about nasty things in the water like tar balls, crabs or sharp stones. They don’t have to worry about waves or being dunked unexpectedly. They certainly don’t have to turn out cupfulls of sand from their swimsuits after a day frolicking in the waves. No – they have things pretty covered. The only concerns are getting the chlorine out of your swimsuit and those guys who have been sitting at the pool bar the WHOLE day drinking untold numbers of beers without moving. Now what the hell? Do they have extra bladders tucked away somewhere handy?
No – I think I am a beach person. I will take the sea and the stingers and the sharp coral over a pee bath any day! Just my opinion …. everyone’s different.
